The crucial role of whistleblowers: A Corporate Governance Podcast
The crucial role of whistleblowers. The latest corporate governance podcast episode dives into whistleblowing: the experience of it, and the lessons we should learn.
The crucial role of whistleblowers
Whistleblowers are people who decide to speak up about some element of a company’s inner workings because they believe it violates the law, is against a code of conduct, is unethical, or for many other reasons.
Some of the biggest corporate scandal stories like the troubles at US aviation giant Boeing or the UK Post Office, have seen whistleblowers take leading roles.
Being a whistleblower can often be incredibly tough. If you decide to speak out, you’ll likely be met with stuff resistance from the corporate leaders you’re speaking out against. Every journey will be different, but this can regularly involve extensive legal proceedings, stress, and personal reputational risk.
Noreen Metcalf, Dan’s guest for this episode, speaks about her own experiences of whistleblowing and how they affected her.
A seasoned corporate governance professional, Noreen also offers her own insights into whistleblower protection and how boards and executives should treat people when they do come forward with critical information.
