Tell us about your professional experience before discovering the Corporate Governance Institute

I have worked in leadership roles in the engineering and construction sector for over 20 years in the UK, USA and Ireland. Previously I worked with multinational consulting firms AECOM and ATKINSREALIS and more recently I joined the Executive Team at TOBIN, a local engineering consultancy with over 200 staff and a legacy stretching over seven decades in Ireland.

What challenges or opportunities were you facing in your career or on your board before taking our course?

Before enrolling in the corporate governance course, I was navigating diverse governance processes and business cultures across different organisations. It became clear that while compliance is a universal goal, each organisation achieves it through procedures tailored to their operations and markets. This presented both challenges and opportunities: the challenge of understanding and adapting to varied frameworks, and the opportunity to develop a more strategic perspective on how governance can be customised to drive efficiency and growth.

Why did you choose to study for the Diploma in Corporate Governance with us to help with these challenges/opportunities?

I was keen to consolidate my experiences with an accredited corporate governance qualification and my colleagues recommended this course.

Can you describe any particular elements of the course that stood out to you or made a significant impact?

The mix of learning formats kept me engaged, including video, case studies, white papers and tutorials. I also found the read aloud function useful for text-heavy PDF documents.

How has completing this course influenced your career, leadership approach, or governance or ESG skills?

Completing the Diploma in Corporate Governance gave me the confidence that I have a good grasp of compliance with corporate governance requirements.

Despite my preference for some in-person classroom sessions, I would highly recommend this online course.
