This masterclass

Seán is an Assistant Professor in Accountancy at University College Dublin and acts as Academic Director of the Masters of Accounting programme at Smurfit Business School. Seán held the role of Head of the Accountancy Department at Technological University Dublin prior to his role at UCD. Seán has extensive experience lecturing executive education and is a lecturer on the FAE programme for Chartered Accountants Ireland.

This session equips board members with the financial insight needed to spot early warning
signs of organisational distress. Using real-world case studies, key financial metrics, and
practical boardroom questions, participants will learn how to detect and respond to financial
red flags before they escalate into crises.

By the end of this masterclass, participants will be able to:

● Interpret the most critical red flags in financial statements and management accounts
● Ask the right questions to challenge executive teams on financial performance and
cash flow
● Recognise patterns that indicate operational inefficiency, liquidity issues, or potential
insolvency
● Understand the board’s role in responding to early signs of financial difficulty
