Crossing the chasm – A Corporate Governance Podcast

by Dan Byrne

Crossing the chasm

Crossing the chasm – the latest episode of the Corporate Governance Podcast focuses on that critical point in an ESG-related transition. It’s a must for your ESG education.

Crossing the chasm

Join your host, Dan Byrne, and Deputy Director General at the Society of the Irish Motor Industry (SIMI) Tom Cullen, for an in-depth discussion on ‘crossing the chasm’ a key challenge in the life-cycle of a big transition in corporate strategy and consumer sentiment.

It’s particularly relevant in areas connected to environment, social and governance (ESG) principles, as core products we rely on every day become greener and more sustainable.

Crossing the chasm means overcoming a gap that often exists between two periods of time in a new product life cycle: the time when only “early adopters” buy and use the new product, and the time when adoption becomes far more widespread and closer to the norm. Bridging the gap between these two points is often a huge task.

Dan and Tom will discuss the challenge, zeroing in on the motor industry, where Tom has many years of experience.

About our guest

Tom Cullen has worked with SIMI since 2001, and during that time, he’s developed a keen interest in how the motor industry will adapt for the future, particularly amid this mammoth transition away from traditional fuels toward electric vehicles.

Tom is a recent graduate of CGI’s Diploma in Corporate Governance and has a long-held passion for the motor industry and how it’s going to adapt in the coming decades – moving away from cars powered by traditional fossil fuels and towards electricity. It’s a mammoth challenge, with many different stakeholders and milestones to reach in the years ahead.

The modern director understands that boardroom responsibilities have dramatically increased, and old norms are being challenged by new ideals around sustainable business that respect all stakeholders – not just shareholders.

Because of this, corporate governance education is an invaluable addition to a director’s skillset—something that will help you stand out amongst your colleagues.

CGI offers dedicated diplomas in both corporate governance and ESG – as well as numerous other certificates focusing on the areas of governance you’re passionate about.

They’re delivered entirely online, and self-paced – meaning you can learn and study at a rate that suits you.
