Before looking for employment in ESG and sustainability, consider your passions.

ESG is a broad field, and early areas emerged, including jobs in ESG investing, ESG reporting and ESG jobs in the public sector.

As more companies focus on sustainable and responsible business practices, the demand for professionals with environmental, social, and governance (ESG) skills is rising. 

There are many possible careers in ESG within just about every industry. 

ESG-related jobs include assessing performance, ethics, governance, and risk concerning the environment and social realm.

Potential jobs for people with ESG skills include:

  1. Sustainability manager: Sustainability managers oversee an organisation’s sustainability initiatives, including ESG reporting. They may also develop sustainability strategies and communicate progress to internal and external stakeholders.
  2. ESG analyst: ESG analysts assess companies’ ESG performance, produce ESG reports, and make recommendations for improvement. They may work for investment firms, rating agencies, or consulting firms.
  3. Corporate social responsibility (CSR) manager: CSR managers develop and implement social responsibility programs that align with a company’s ESG objectives. They also oversee the production of ESG reports.
  4. Environmental, health, and safety (EHS) Manager: EHS managers ensure that a company complies with environmental regulations and promotes workplace health and safety. They may also oversee the production of ESG reports.
  5. Investment analyst: Investment analysts evaluate companies’ financial and ESG performance to determine whether to invest in them. They may work for investment firms, asset managers, or banks.
  6. Sustainability consultant: They advise companies on sustainability strategies and help them produce ESG reports. They may work for consulting firms or be self-employed.
