Tell us about your professional experience before discovering the Corporate Governance Institute.
I worked in Corporate Governance as both Head of Governance and Board Secretary for nearly six years prior to commencing the qualification with the Corporate Governance Institute.
What challenges or opportunities were you facing in your career or on your board before taking our course?
The variety of work presented in Governance & Board Secretarial work provides great opportunities to broaden knowledge in different areas and also to build relationships with stakeholders. A challenge, as in any industry, is keeping up-to-date with changes to ensure that energy is being focused in the right areas.
Why did you choose to study for the Diploma in Corporate Governance with us to help with these challenges/opportunities?
Although I had good experience in the area, I felt that a qualification in Corporate Governance would increase my knowledge and also ensure that I kept up-to-date with any emerging themes in the sector.
Can you describe any particular elements of the course that stood out to you or made a significant impact?
What made an impact on me was in the area of ESG and how to properly integrate it into Board reporting. It also equipped me with a clearer understanding of Board members’ needs.
How has completing this course influenced your career, leadership approach, or governance or ESG skills?
Taking this course has made me more aware of emerging trends in the area of Corporate Governance and has given me more confidence to lead in areas I may not have felt I had the knowledge in previously.
What did you find most beneficial about studying with the Corporate Governance Institute?
I found the shared knowledge at the end of each section particularly useful as it was interesting to find out about the many challenges experienced and solutions offered by other people working in the same sector as myself.
What advice would you give future learners wishing to pursue the Diploma in Corporate Governance?
The course is definitely worth doing. It will solidify your existing knowledge in some areas and also equip you with information on topics you may be less confident in.
