Tell us about your professional experience before discovering the Corporate Governance Institute

I have extensive experience in blue-chip retail and logistics management followed by building a portfolio of Chair and NED appointments, principally with small to medium sized growth businesses with a strong customer ethos.

What challenges or opportunities were you facing in your career or on your board before taking our course?

There is a continuous challenge to be ‘current’ and ‘relevant’ whilst bringing the appropriate level of challenge and guidance to executive teams in growth businesses. The programme offered the opportunity to refresh existing knowledge whilst building out a stronger governance appreciation and expertise

Why did you choose to study for the Diploma in Corporate Governance with us to help with these challenges/opportunities?

I chose this diploma because it offered an up-to-date perspective on governance trends and themes that are relevant across the globe. Coupled with a formally-recognised accreditation, the programme offered everything that I was looking for in a distance-learning setting, supported by a strong mixed-media curriculum.

Can you describe any particular elements of the course that stood out to you or made a significant impact?

The overall level of content was strong, but what was particularly good was the series of videos and webinars that ‘pepper’ the programme; offering real-world case studies and expert perspectives on the materials being taught. The fact that access to these materials continues after the end of the programme is a real bonus.

How has completing this course influenced your career, leadership approach, or governance or ESG skills?

The programme has provided reassurance on many topics, refreshed others and added new skills and angles in some areas. I feel like a more rounded and capable director as a consequence of completing this course.

What did you find most beneficial about studying with the Corporate Governance Institute?

The pace is entirely at your own discretion and the mixed media approach means that there is a way of learning that suits everyone. Add in the continual checks and assessments and you know that you are plotting your course to successful completion.

What advice would you give future learners wishing to pursue the Diploma in Corporate Governance?

From a value-for-money perspective, this is a great offering. So my advice would be simply to make a start. You will be amazed how much you will get from the programme. Taking the first step is always the hardest… but often the most rewarding.
