"I liked the detail of the course content... and the opportunity to work at my own pace and in my own time. It has given me greater confidence in carrying out my own duties and working with client organisations."
Tell us about your professional experience before discovering the Corporate Governance Institute.*
I have a long history of working in the non-profit sector and am particularly interested in governance in this sector. I believe that well-governed organisations are best placed to realise their objectives, so good governance is key to organisational success.
What challenges or opportunities were you facing in your career or on your board before taking our course?
I already had experience and certification in non-profit governance but I was keen to deepen my understanding of the key issues and attain a higher level qualification.
Why did you choose to study for the Diploma in Corporate Governance with us to help with these challenges/opportunities?
I liked the detail of the course content, and CGI’s focus on corporate governance. I also appreciated the opportunity to work at my own pace and in my own time. Having done several other courses in recent years with big assignments at the end, I really liked the multiple choice exams on this course, it was a welcome change.
Can you describe any particular elements of the course that stood out to you or made a significant impact?
I had heard a lot about ESG so I appreciated an opportunity to get into it in a bit more detail. I am also very keen on organisational culture, defining it, understanding it and maintaining it, so that content was very enjoyable. Organisational strategy is also an area I was keen to understand better and so I enjoyed this too.
How has completing this course influenced your career, leadership approach, or governance or ESG skills?
Firstly, I appreciate having the qualification. It is important for us to be able to demonstrate our commitment to staff development to our own stakeholders and to show that we have people with good qualifications in the areas we operate in. Secondly it has given me greater confidence in carrying out my own duties and working with client organisations.
