This Diploma in Corporate Governance is university credit-rated and validated by our Governance Advisory Council. The syllabus is steeped in rigorous pedagogy and contains everything you need to know to become a company director.

Introduction to Corporate Governance

In this module, you will gain a clear understanding of the world of corporate governance, the principles which underpin it, global trends and the role it plays in contemporary business.

Module 2

Governance Architecture

In this module, you will learn that the governance structure of every organisation is unique, given its heritage and culture, and how to build a best practice governance structure.

You will learn about the duties and responsibilities to be a competent and skilful director with the appropriate mindset to make a real impact in the boardroom.

Module 4

Corporate culture

This module explains the importance of aligning the culture of the board with the organisation and its strategy. Culture is how companies create and protect value through people.

The Governance Handbook

This underpins the governance structures of an organisation defining roles, policies, procedures and other board documentation. All of this forms part of the Governance Handbook, the rulebook for directors.

Module 6

Reporting

This module clearly explains, in detail, the information and supporting processes that directors require to perform their role and how they relate to effective reporting, which is essential for boards.

Module 7

Financial matters

This module will help to interpret the financial statements that you will have to master as a director.

Module 8

Risk

This module ensures that you can provide the proper oversight of risk in the organisation and ask intelligent questions.

Evaluating performance

This module clearly explains how to initiate and implement evaluations of the board, directors, and the CEO.

Module 10

The non-executive director (NED)

Frequently asked questions

How is this Diploma in Corporate Governance delivered?

All courses in 2021 will be streamed live online via Zoom or Microsoft Teams.  The Diploma comprises 11 modules, each module is three hours long.

Each module will be delivered on successive weekday evenings (usually either Tuesday or Wednesday), with a follow-up tutorial a couple of days later.

Each three-hour module will be divided into three, one-hour slots. Each slot will be approx 50 minutes in length with plenty of time for questions and answers, followed by a 10-minute break.


How Much Time Should I Allocate for the Diploma?

The Diploma in Corporate Governance programme itself is 30 hours long. This is based on attending ten, three-hour modules over the course of ten weeks.

Throughout the programme, you will be introduced to various case studies by our faculty lecturers. This will require you to spend extra time reviewing these documents. You will also spend time discussing these case studies with your peers and colleagues within our online community.

There is also a capstone case study that will run across and through the ten modules, bringing together the various components of each module.

We recommend that you allocate a further 30 hours of review and study time, on top of the actual face-to-face time with your lecturers.
