Tell us about your professional experience before discovering The Corporate Governance Institute.

I serve as a Board Advisor to chairmen and owners in various global companies. I’m a Senior Accredited Director, practitioner-academic in trisector strategy and innovation, and ranked amongst the global top 100 professor-author grade management consultants. Building on my experience over the last 25 years, I now lead Solaris Management Advancement Academy/Advisory (SMAA) to provide strategy and cross functional consulting and coaching.

What challenges or opportunities were you facing in your career or on your board before taking our course?

The biggest challenge I was facing was closing the gap in my credentials. Many courses/short programs are out there but none at the Diploma level nor rigour (examinable).

Why did you choose to study for the Diploma in Corporate Governance with us to help with these challenges/opportunities?

I ultimately decided to study for the Diploma in Corporate Governance to get a proper Diploma certification and close the credentials gap.

Can you describe any particular elements of the course that stood out to you or made a significant impact?

The systematic curriculum and reasonable approach of the course stood out to me the most, which I really appreciated as part of my overall learning journey. Many courses out there are either too anecdotal with wisdom sharing (where you are guaranteed to get a pass simply by following along or sleeping through). Or courses are too academic with text-heavy company law type of material where you need to memorise everything and are essentially taking part in a rote memory examination.

How has completing this course influenced your career, leadership approach, governance or ESG skills?

The most significant way the Diploma in Corporate Governance has influenced my career is that I now have a Diploma certification to back me up in my role.

How has it improved decision-making or performance within your organisation?

One improvement I have noticed has been the increase in client confidence.

The self-paced nature of the course was a highlight.

What advice would you give future learners wishing to pursue the Diploma in Corporate Governance?

Having a good, systematic start to your learning journey will matter. With a solid foundation (first earning the Diploma), other courses can then complement as icing on the cake.
