"Completing the Corporate Governance Diploma at TCGI has fundamentally transformed my career trajectory, leadership approach, governance practice and ESG skills. The course has also opened senior governance opportunities, directly facilitating my appointment as an Associate and Board Secretary."
Tell us about your professional experience before discovering The Corporate Governance Institute.
Long before I discovered The Corporate Governance Institute, I used to think governance was strictly a board‑level concern, far removed from day-to‑day project delivery. In practice, working on large infrastructure and public‑sector programmes showed me how governance shapes decisions, risk, transparency and value for money across projects, not just in the boardroom.
What challenges or opportunities were you facing in your career or on your board before taking our course?
I was not a board member by then but I faced challenges managing contracts and risks on multimillion-dollar infrastructure projects without formal governance frameworks.
Why did you choose to study for the Diploma in Corporate Governance with us to help with these challenges/opportunities?
I chose to study TCGI’s Diploma in Corporate Governance because I wanted a more structured way to drive transparency, strengthen stakeholder accountability and maximise value for money in project delivery, while simultaneously making me board-ready.
Can you describe any particular elements of the course that stood out to you or made a significant impact?
I found the modules covering governance architecture, strategy and risk were the most transformative, giving me structured tools to embed accountability across my work. Also, learning to handle emerging global trends such as technology integration, ESG compliance and EDI equipped me to future proof projects in my organisation against regulatory shifts and stakeholder expectations.
How has completing this course influenced your career, leadership approach, governance or ESG skills?
Completing the Corporate Governance Diploma at TCGI has fundamentally transformed my career trajectory, leadership approach, governance practice and ESG skills. The course has also opened senior governance opportunities, directly facilitating my appointment as an Associate and Board Secretary at WATSAN Uganda: UK Support, which is a UK charity registered with the Charity Commission as a CIO. Its aims are to support a Ugandan partner organisation in delivering projects covering water supply and sanitation improvement as well as health and hygiene promotion, to rural communities in South West Uganda.
Key frameworks from the course have revolutionised my leadership, embedding proactive risk ownership across complex infrastructure programmes. Director duties under Companies Act 2006 and board reporting standards has equipped me to contribute strategically to Boards.
ESG modules on technology integration, sustainability and EDI future-proof my approach to infrastructure delivery that aligns with regulatory expectations.
What did you find most beneficial about studying with The Corporate Governance Institute?
The most beneficial aspects of studying with The Corporate Governance Institute were the up-to-date content and real-world examples that bridged together theory and practice, which is directly applicable in my organisation. Practical assignments enhanced my skills while specialised keynote speakers and lectures from different reputable organisations provided cutting edge insights on ESG, technology governance and crisis management, accelerating my strategic impact.
What advice would you give future learners wishing to pursue the Diploma?
The Diploma in Corporate Governance will unlock strategic governance opportunities for you and make you relevant in today’s world ahead of any emerging trends.
