"I particularly enjoyed elements that addressed the areas I am not currently exposed to when it comes to reporting to Boards / Committees. These included the Board's role in developing and reviewing strategies, ESG related reporting, Directors selection and development. Overall, the course gave me the assurance that I am ready to develop my Directorship career."
Tell us about your professional experience before discovering the Corporate Governance Institute
I have 20+ years of experience in the fields of governance, internal audit, risk management and internal controls
What challenges or opportunities were you facing in your career or on your board before taking our course?
I would refer to it more of a limitation rather than a challenge. Being involved with Boards and Board Committees from a reporting and secretarial perspective, and not being a Director so far did limit my understanding of the extent of Directors mandate, whether fiduciary duties or functional duties. Also I did not really grasp the width and depth of scope a Director role has.
Why did you choose to study for the Diploma in Corporate Governance with us to help with these challenges/opportunities?
As strange as it may sound, I am passionate about governance in all aspects of life, with corporate governance being one of them. I believe in the significant impact that the tone at the top has on organisations. Corporate governance serves as a medium that portrays how this tone is cascaded throughout the organisation. Accordingly, I seek any learning or development opportunities to further improve and expand my understanding and knowledge of corporate governance. This Diploma seemed like a great opportunity and eventually exceeded my expectations in solidifying the concepts of corporate governance.
Can you describe any particular elements of the course that stood out to you or made a significant impact?
