In this talk, we will discuss how to consider strategic risks, initial learning from COVID-19, case studies of good and bad crisis communication and what strong, resilient organisations have in common and how to avoid the most common pitfalls.

How to accomplish risk management in a digital world with rapidly evolving business models

Wednesday 12th May 2021

About this discussion:

The climate in which businesses operate is changing rapidly. Artificial intelligence, robotics, blockchain and big data have dramatically affected business models.

Even though the digital world creates excellent opportunities, it also creates great risks. There is no shortage of cases of risk management and governance failures. High-profile cases like Wirecard, Natwest Ireland (Ulster Bank) or Wells Fargo are only recent examples.

Kevin McHugh will outline how boards can strategically manage their risks to take advantage of digital opportunities while mitigating the risks of the digital world.

Speaker:

Kevin McHugh has over two decades of board-level international experience across multiple businesses in Europe, North America and Australia in all areas of governance, risk management and compliance. He was the chief risk officer at the Bank of Montreal (Europe) Plc and prior to that was divisional chief compliance and risk officer of AIB. He also worked for big four firms in management roles in Ireland, the US and Europe. He is a Fellow of Chartered Accountants Ireland and of the Chartered Institute of Securities and Investments. Currently, Kevin runs Priory GRC Consulting, a boutique consulting firm advising on all aspects of governance, risk and compliance and is also a senior advisor at JDX Consulting.
